Winter Parking Regulations

The winter parking ban goes into effect on November 15th, 2009. This ban requires all vehicles to be removed from on-street parking between 2:00 am and 6:00 am . Residents are reminded that this ban is in effect regardless of snowfall. As you know, snow fall is often not predicted and to insure that the Department of Public Services has clear streets for snow removal it is important that all parked vehicles are off the roadway. Residents are asked to remind visitors to their home of this ban. The parking ban is in effect until April 1, 2010.  Should you have special circumstances that would not allow a vehicle to be removed, call the Police Department at 866-9557 to discuss other arrangements.

Fall Leaf Pick Up

The fall leaf pickup will run from October 19, 2009 through Thanksgiving as long as there is no significant snow accumulation. During this time period, leaves may be raked to the parkway for pick up and bags are not required. However, those wishing to still use the biodegradable bags are encouraged to do so. All other yard waste must still be bagged as normally required throughout the summer season.

Holiday Lighting Ceremony

Start out your holiday season by enjoying the Holiday Lighting Ceremony in Peppler Park on November 18th, 2009. The Rockford High School choir will sing holiday favorites, a seasonal greeting will be given and then the holiday lights will be lit turning downtown Rockford into a winter wonderland!  Downtown merchants will line the streets with candles and stores will be decorated with their holiday greens. Be sure to visit the shops and restaurants for their annual open houses on Wednesday Nov. 18th and Thursday Nov. 19th from 6-9 pm. Many businesses offer special treats, beverages and in store specials during the open house.

The City is proud to present its first ever Sustainability Plan. The Plan is intended to be a living document which will help guide the City to act more environmentally friendly, as it partners with the City of Rockford's Master Plan to guide further growth and development of the community. download the plan here.
