Burn Ordinance/Open Fires

The City of Rockford does not allow the burning of brush or rubbish. Recreational fires shall not be conducted within 25 feet of a structure or combustible matter. Conditions which could cause a fire to spread within 25 feet of a structure shall be eliminated prior to ignition. Open burning, bonfires or recreational fires shall be constantly attended until the fire is extinguished.

The Rockford Department of Public Safety conducts annual fire and life safety inspections at businesses throughout the City. Fire Department Tours

The department conducts tours of the public safety departments for groups by appointment. If you would like to schedule a group for a police or fire tour please contact the Public Safety Department during normal business hours at (616) 866-9557.

Educational - National Fire Prevention Week

During Fire Prevention Week in the month of October, presentations are made at the pre-schools in town. The public safety department also provides fire and safety programs for the elderly at our senior living centers, as well as lectures and programs for Boy and Girl Scout programs.
